If you’re on the lookout for a new home air conditioning unit, here’s a checklist for buyers:

  1. Quick weight vs. long-term costs: At first high-efficiency units cost more, but in terms of lower energy costs you’ll save money down the road. How much you save depends on the device you purchase, and how much you use the air conditioner.
  2. Make sure that your device is at least 13 SEER:-air conditioner has a seasonal energy efficiency (SEER) rating. By regulation, you’re allowed to buy a SEER 13 or better. Anything between 14.5 and 17 is called efficiency at the mid-range. Up 17 is high quality.
  3. Also a low-efficiency unit is better than any old A / C unit: Light-years ahead of where they were 20 years ago, air conditioning units. Also purchasing the cheapest, lowest-efficiency new units that are available today could cut your energy costs by half.

Pick size of an AC unit based on the BTUs. For example, an area of 1,000 square feet requires about a BTU unit of 19,500.   7. Choose between inverter and fixed-speed motor: Inverter-based home air conditioning systems allow variable motor speed, which means they are more energy-efficient. DC controllers also happen to us because they have quieter motors. Fixed-speed devices are also less costly to procure.
  8. Pick either the R407c or R410a system: for most AC systems, R22 was the standard form of coolant, but is phased out due to international agreements and various domestic rules. Instead buy a machine that uses either the coolant R407c or R410a. Either is good, but units R410a are the most productive of the two groups.
